Australians love for Italian wine grows by 21% (ABS)

Australian consumers have a growing desire for Italian wines with the value of Italian wine imported into Australia rising by 21 per cent per annum since 2011, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics 2014.

Tony De Domenico, President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) Melbourne, said "Italian wine lovers will have an opportunity to experience a new generation of Italian wines when over 400 different wines, some of which have never been available before in Australia, will be centre stage at the ICCI VinItalia Food and Wine Festival on Sunday 11 October 2015."

Mr De Domenico said the thousands of Italian restaurants operating across Australia has increased the popularity of fine Italian food and wine.

The one day festival, being staged on Sunday 11 October 2015, by the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Melbourne (ICCI) in the historic Royal Exhibition Building, will provide lovers of Italian food and wine with a whole day of tastings and an opportunity to take part in a number of master classes.

Elaine Bocchini, ICCI Marketing Manager of the VinItalia Food and Wine Festival, said lovers of the Italian lifestyle and fine design will be able to enjoy a special display of the classic Alfa Romeo cars, a photographic exhibition by the Italian Institute of Culture and women's jewellery. Painted reproductions of famous Italian artworks, which are used by international galleries as temporary replacements whilst the original paintings are on 'Tour', will also be on display. Live Jazz tunes will be played during in the afternoon by Mirko Guerrini. From 7.00pm D.O.C. Apericena, an Italian style after hours with drinks and finger food will be served.

Ms Bocchini said "Apart from the forty tasting displays, an Italian lifestyle restaurant will operate in the centre of the festival where guests can order traditional Italian fine food and wine."

The VinItalia Food and Wine Festival is part of the Gusto Italiano educational series: a series of events created by ICCI Melbourne aiming to promote premium Italian food and wine in Australia.
