Kirra Galleries and Fed Square Release Online Viewing of Entries in New International Glass Award

Kirra Galleries and Federation Square have released an online viewing of the glass artists who have been accepted to exhibit and compete for the new International Kirra Illuminating Glass Award (KIGA).

Peter Kolliner OAM,Gallery Director of Kirra Galleries said: "The KIGA first prize is AU$15,000 and will be awarded for the best internally-lit glass sculpture on Tuesday 3 June 2014 at the opening of Kirra Galleries' KIGA exhibition by the Victorian Minister for the Arts, The Hon. Heidi Victoria at 6.30pm.

Jane Sydenham-Clarke from Fed Square said in a similar process to the Archibald prize, glass artists were chosen from 92 entries to exhibit for the inaugural Kirra Illuminating Glass Award (KIGA) a feature of Fed Square's annual Light in Winter. program.

"The KIGA exhibition will be viewed with the gallery in darkness to highlight each work through its own illuminating light source."

"The wide variety of designs and techniques submitted will provide an extensive showcase of the world standard of Australian and New Zealand glass art."

The new award will be judged by Ms Robyn Archer AO, Ms Kate Brennan, Dr Grace Cochrane AM, Dr Matthew Martin and Mr. Peter Kolliner OAM.
