Kidsafe, the Child Accident
Prevention Foundation of Australia, has opened nominations for their annual National
Kidsafe Day Awards this week. The aim of the awards is to recognise those in the
local community who have made a significant contribution to child injury prevention.
Each year, approximately 250 Australian children (aged 0-14 years) are killed
and 58,000 hospitalised by unintentional injuries - the kind often referred to
as accidents. Many of these are easily prevented by simple means.
"The
National Kidsafe Day Awards are a way to recognise people in the community who
actively keep our kids safe. They're often the unsung heroes of a community, however
it's important to recognise their contributions and inspire others to follow suit,"
says Kidsafe's National President, Peter Gibson.
