Melbourne's only suburb with 50% of its area dedicated to open space, Sandhurst, is experiencing record sales as the project draws to a conclusion.

In September - October, land buyers spent $14.4 million purchasing land in Sandhurst, Melbourne's first private master planned and managed suburb.

Paul Phillips, Sales Manager for Sandhurst said, "With increased housing density being planned for existing suburbs, new land buyers are looking for open space and quality environments in which to live".

"Cashed up buyers who are selling their suburban homes for well in excess of $1 million make up a good proportion of the households moving to Sandhurst".

Mr Phillips said the feedback from land purchasers is that the environment is a major factor and people want a clean, green environment for their children to grow up in and an environment free of suburban traffic and pollution.

"The current debate on climate change and the environment we believe has increased people's awareness of the benefits that open space and a clean environment bring towards achieving a healthy lifestyle."

In 2008, Sandhurst received two prestigious UDIA awards for Environmental Excellence and the Best Landscape Design.

"There is no comparison to Sandhurst when land buyers compare the quality and amount of open space available with golf front lots being highly popular."

At Sandhurst we have the unique combination of a golf-residential environment where 50% of the project is open space featuring two championship 18 hole golf courses, lakes, manicured parklands and 50km's of walking and buggy trails which are kept lush and green all year round with recycled water.

Mr Phillips said, "with less than 100 allotments left at Sandhurst, people are recognising that once this land is sold it will remain tightly held and at a premium as there will never be another suburb built like it this close to Melbourne. That is why people are rushing to buy now before it is sold out."
