Ice Skating Rink Being Built at Fed Square

Federation Square

Get Your Skates On' is the message from Fed Square as it announces plans to install an ice-skating rink for the winter school holidays.

Situated overlooking the Yarra River on the edge of Fed Square, the Momentum Energy River Rink at Fed Square will provide a spectacular venue for family ice-skating in the heart of the world's most liveable city. Suitable for the young and young at heart the rink will open from 10.00am to 10.00pm.

During the day views of the city and Yarra River will form a dramatic backdrop for skaters, and as nightfall arrives the Momentum Energy River Rink at Fed Square will be transformed into a fairyland of light and colour. On selected evenings the rink will be transformed by an overlay of themes including 80's and Christmas in July accompanied by a DJ to get the legs moving.

The Momentum Energy River Rink at Fed Square will be officially opened on Friday 26 June 2015 with skating beginning on Saturday 27 June at 10.00am.

Ron Gauci, CEO of Fed Square said "The introduction of ice-skating for children at Fed Square in the heart of Melbourne will return some magic and fun to city life during Melbourne's winter.

"It will also provide many parents with an opportunity to introduce their children to ice-skating and create memorable experiences in Melbourne's iconic Fed Square.

"We are working closely with the Medibank Icehouse skating facility in Docklands, who will be part of the program with ice-skating demonstrations daily at 12.45pm and 5.45pm."

Mr Gauci said the Big Screen at Fed Square will take a direct video feed from the Momentum Energy River Rink at Fed Square, with skaters appearing on screens across the site allowing for interaction with other visitors to Fed Square. This will enable photos not only to be taken rink side but also larger than life appearances to be recorded from the Big Screen.

People need to book online at to gain access to the ice-skating rink.
