Overnight Fed Square has been transformed into a moveable forest of 150 Christmas Trees.

Fed Square has released the transformation on YouTube under the title 'In the Pines'.

The forest is the work of Melbourne urban artists, The Projects and over the course of the month it will play host to free performances, picnics, games of hide and seek and a giant maze.

Jane Sydenham-Clarke spokesperson for Fed Square said the forest of Christmas trees has been designed to be complemented with a series of engaging free activities for families over the Christmas period, one of the busiest times at Fed Square.

In The Pines is part of Fed Square's month long festive program - Spirit of the Square which includes community choirs, songs from the Salvos and Christmas films.
