$250 Million Melbourne
Housing Project Jobs Boost
Links
Living Limited has announced it has accelerated the construction of the $250
million 500 lot housing project in the south east of Melbourne just four months
after releasing its first block of land for sale.
Stephen
Head, Managing Director of Links Living, said that whilst some companies may
be winding down operations in the current economic climate, they have taken
the view that now is a good time to commence new projects in Victoria as they
are finding demand is still very strong.
Mr
Head said, "The construction of Sandarra will provide hundreds of jobs over
the next three to five years with the domino effect of five hundred new homes
flowing into all areas of the local economy. We expect to have bulldozers
on the ground within the next three weeks."
"Over
the past decade we have specialised in developing masterplanned residential
estates including our signature golfing residential projects, Sanctuary Lakes
Resort and Sandhurst Club. Between them they have generated around $1.5 billion
in investment in Victoria and created hundreds of jobs each year.
"Sandarra
was launched on 15th November 2008 where the first twenty residents camped
out over five days to gain the block of their choice. It has continued to
sell at record rates during the economic downturn selling on average at a
block a day."
Mr
Head said Sandarra, part of Melbourne's only drought proof suburb Sandhurst
in the City of Frankston, is one of the fastest selling housing projects in
Victoria with over 20% of the 500 lots already sold within three months.
The
project has also received support from the Victorian building industry with
the commitment of a number of Melbourne's top building companies to the Sandarra
Display Village, which will feature 14 specially designed homes.
Buyer
profiles showed the majority of purchasers were people who were trading up
from established homes in the local region attracted by the current low interest
rates.
"With
land prices from $165,000 and house and land packages available from $288,700,
affordability has been a major driving force in the ongoing sales rate of
the project.
"The
strong demand for land at Sandarra is also being fuelled by access to a guaranteed
green environment through the provision of recycled water to every home for
the watering of gardens and public spaces making the project drought proof
at a time of tightening water restrictions," Mr Head added.
