Archicentre Launches Poll on Home Buying Influence of Men and Women

Archicentre, the building advisory service of the Australian Institute of Architects has launched a poll in its latest Consumer Bulletin aimed at determining which sex has more influence over home buying.

The poll asks the direct question of who has most influence in buying a home: women, men or is it a joint decision to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars and commit to a lifelong mortgage.

In the past decade we have seen significant changes in the design of homes where the kitchen has now become part of an open plan living area, allowing for far more family social interaction, a trend we believe has a lot to do with the influence of women on design.

Initial voting on the poll in the first hour of votes showed that voters believed only 10% of purchasing decisions were made by men, 52% were made by women and 38% were a joint decision.
