Fed Square Big
Screen to Move to Marysville
An
alliance between Fed Square, Centacare Catholic Family
Services, Regional Arts Victoria, the Helen Macpherson
Smith Trust and the Marysville and Triangle Development
Group will see the Marysville community and visitors
to the historic township. which is now in recovery
mode from the Black Saturday bushfires, enjoy the
benefits of a large screen for community events, development
and cultural experiences.
Jane Sydenham-Clarke, Manager Marketing & Program,
Fed Square said the original Fed Square screen, which
has largely been in storage since it was replaced
two years ago, will be transported and installed in
Marysville this week in partnership with the local
community.
Janet Cribbes, Project Co-ordinator Bushfire Community
Recovery for Centacare Catholic Family Services, a
major sponsor of the project, said the Marysville
Big Screen is aimed at providing a significant cultural,
social and sporting focus providing a unique gathering
space for many events for a seventeen week season.
The Marysville Big Screen opens up potential for special
community activities and performances which can be
exhibited on the screen.
Lindy Allen, Director of Regional Arts Victoria said
with the funding support of the Helen Macpherson Smith
Trust, a Programming Manager has been appointed to
establish and manage the screen locally and ensure
ongoing relevant content and events.
Organisations in Melbourne, including Federation Square
Management, ACMI, the Arts Centre and major performing
arts companies will provide a broad variety of content
as determined by local demand.
The project has the capacity to support the production
of material by local people, enabling them to make
meaning of the experiences they've had and to draw
in those who might not normally seek counselling to
become part of this important healing process.
Within the broader context of the major planning issues
that the residents of Marysville will be grappling
with in the months ahead, including town planning,
design overlays, zoning, acquiring land for the creation
of community spaces and the design and management
of these new spaces, the Big Screen will create a
venue for the town's new leaders to bring people together,
to explore each others stories and create new working
relationship on the sound basis of empathy and shared
goals.
