Kidney Health Australia Calls on Motorists to Calm
Down in
Blood Pressure
Campaign

Kidney Health Australia has called
on motorists caught in peak hour traffic jams every day
in Australia's capital cities to remain calm to ensure
their blood pressure does not rise as part of its Kidney
Health Week program to 'Keep The Pressure
Down'.
Hundreds of advertising signs
featuring three brightly coloured jelly beans are being
rolled out across Australia in capital cities to remind
millions of Australian motorists driving to and from
work that 1 in 3 Australians is at risk of Kidney
Disease.
The first super sign has already gone
up in Melbourne at
Kingsway.
High blood pressure affects 1
in 4 Australians - 50% of people do not have blood
pressure managed to target levels.
Lack of getting the blood pressure to
target levels in people with Chronic Kidney Disease is
probably the single most important factor determining
deterioration of kidney
function.
High blood pressure is a frequent
and serious complication of Chronic Kidney Disease
(CKD)
·
80% of all people with CKD have high blood
pressure.
·
High blood pressure is the third most common cause of
kidney failure but contributes to progressive decline in
kidney function in the majority of
people.
·
CKD is the most frequent association of resistant or
difficult to treat high blood pressure with many people
required to take 4 or more separate blood pressure
medications.
