Renovate Out of Recession
Archicentre's Free Online Trade Dating Service

Renovators or home owners throughout Australia can now take advantage of a FREE online service which provides home owners with a time saving way of engaging licensed, qualified tradespersons.

Roof maintenance on a property

David Hallett, General Manager of Archicentre said with unemployment in Australia predicted to hit double figures, efficiency in matching jobs with registered, skilled trades is vital in maximizing job opportunities within the renovation industry.

"The Archicentre Home Repair Service, powered by Service Central, is provided FREE for anyone who is looking to find a licensed, qualified, insured tradesperson to undertake work in over 100 different categories, including painting, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, fencing, gutter and downpipe replacement, restumping and pest control.

"Home owners and renovators simply post their job at www.archicentre.com.au this will be matched with the right local tradesperson and they will then contact the home owner. "

Archicentre, Australia's largest supplier of pre-purchase home inspections and design concepts helps over 20,000 people annually to purchase or renovate a home. The J for Jobs Trade Dating Service is a response to people requesting contacts for skilled, licensed, tradespersons.

Mr Hallett said the yearly value of the renovation market is up to $26 billion and involves approximately 160,000 ground and upper floor additions and over 1.2 million kitchen and bathroom renovations.

"Over 350,000 people in Australia work in the housing industry, making it one of the biggest employment sectors in the country. Furthermore, nearly a million people in total (961,000) work in the construction and building sector as a whole.

"Importantly the Renovation Industry is Hammer Ready and jobs can be started far more quickly than building a new home which can take up to twelve months to start due to buying land, obtaining titles, encountering planning delays at local government level and appointing a builder."

Mr Hallett said the reality is that renovation can stimulate the economy far more rapidly in current times when job creation is a matter of urgency.

"We are taking the uncertainty out of finding a qualified tradesperson and also finding jobs for tradies that they can apply for without having to spend time driving around for jobs which may not be suitable."

Mr. Hallett said in the current economic climate every dollar which can be saved by efficiency is important to small business involved in renovation.

At the same time any program that makes it easier for people to hire qualified tradespersons is a plus in the battle to maintain jobs in the current economic downturn, he added.
