Victorian Housing Minister, The Hon Wendy Lovell MLC, yesterday launched the latest Safe and Sound report by Archicentre, at the Caulfield Hospital.
Archicentre manages the Victorian Government's free home inspection service for aged pensioners and disabled people and their carers. Free inspections can be booked by telephoning 1300 136 513.
Falls by older people account for the majority of home injuries including 19% of all deaths and 41% of hospital admissions.
David Hallett, Archicentre General Manager said, about a quarter of the homes visited by Archicentre had safety hazards.
The Minister was joined by two special guests at the launch - Isabelle and Amy, who have used the service to upgrade safety in their homes.
Coinciding with the launch of the Safe and Sound report was the celebration of the services 30th birthday with the cutting of a giant cake.
