The project started with an Archicentre Design Concept. Leonard Martin also won the MBA New South Wales Housing Awards and the Strathfield Council Building Design Awards for the home.
Mark Stewart, Chief Executive of Archicentre congratulated Mr Martin on an outstanding result reflecting the importance of quality design and creativity in renovations.
Mr Stewart said, “the fact this project started out as an Archicentre Design project also reinforces the professional approach of architects and the depth of their training in assisting people get their renovation ideas together resulting in quality outcomes.”
Commenting on the award, Leonard Martin said, “The Strathfield House was a 1970’s ‘Clarion Home’ called ‘The Manola’, built in a mock Spanish style of that decade. A brick veneer house of white Calsil rock face bricks, notorious for their mortar not bonding, had a dilapidated front wall in danger of collapsing”.
“After carrying out an Archicentre inspection on the property and having some discussions with the owner, an Archicentre Renovation Design Report was commissioned as an initial step to rejuvenate the house”.
Mr Martin said “working in conjunction with Strathfield Council Planners provided an outcome with the Federation style being chosen because it was sympathetic with the form of the existing house and supported the streetscape. It also enabled the existing windows to be retained”.
"The approach we followed in the renovation of the home combined the house and gardens design and a 'hands on' approach."
Ricardo Fioravanti of Unique Constructions, carried out the construction, with the gardens being designed by Leonard Martin and constructed by Greg Hopcroft of Sacred Lotus Gardens.
