The latest HIA-CBA Housing Affordability Report shows affordability deteriorated in most capital cities and regional areas in the three months to June. The Index fell 9.1 per cent in the June quarter to be 32 per cent lower compared to the same period last year.

Ian Agnew, Queensland State Manager of Archicentre said renovators and home builders stand to win a $5000 renovation or New Home Design by sharing their likes and dislikes in a survey being conducted at the Courier Mail Home Show.

Mr Agnew said after choosing a budget between $300,000 - $700,000 and nominating a preferred land size people are asked their preferences for design features they would like to see in their dream home or renovation.

"Participants will also be asked to describe their dream home in 25 to 50 words.

"The views of participants will be aggregated along with Archicentre's expertise gained from 20 years conducting building and pest inspections."

Mr Agnew said a design brief will be circulated to all Queensland Archicentre Architects providing an opportunity to design their version of the traditional Queenslander along with a tight budget.

"The designs will then be judged by a panel of judges, industry experts and some members of the public who entered the competition who will assess the design for sustainability as well as affordability.
