Ms Campbell said, "the all embracing influence of Climate
Change which affects every aspect of life and the economy requires a
national approach through Australia's education, government and
business channels.
'It is vital that governments take the community with them as
they face the implementation of Climate Change policies such as
water restrictions, price hikes in energy and water which will
require substantial behavioral change.
"Online education is the key weapon to deliver consistent Climate
Change information nationally and internationally to ensure all
countries are on the same page."
Ms Campbell said that there is a need for the community to invest
extra funding to train teachers to deliver Climate Change education
through the online technology.
The battle on climate change will be won on online because of the
following:
1. Online technology can deliver information anywhere
in the world within seconds.
2. The internet provides the
opportunity for the instant sharing of information.
3. The online
stage provides students the opportunity to connect directly
4.
The technology allows multi media, the written word and photo
formats.
5. Information can be upgraded in real time.
Millions of students across the world will be able to speak to
each other and exchange ideas to combat climate change in the
world's first online Climate Change classroom created in Australia
which was officially launched in London early January.
The online classroom created by Gould, and Etech an Australian
Company and world leader in learning technology was launched at the
world's largest education expo BETT.
Ann-Maree Colborne CEO of Gould said, "The release of the Sustainability
Wiz learning platform the ground has shifted significantly
for climate change education in Australia which to date is being
developed on a fragmented State by State basis because of a lack of
a coordinated approach to national delivery and reporting standards.
"The international platform of the program provides the Federal
Government with a unique opportunity to link Australia into the
international climate change education program to support its stated
policies to be a leader in the Climate Change debate and solutions.
"Within twelve months with Etech we aim to have the program
delivered on mobile telephones to introduce learning on the move and
capitalize on the trend of young people getting information from
interactive hand held devices."
SMS, online videos, written information and photos will be
delivered to mobile phones.
The program has already been successfully piloted in the UK, New
York State, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore, Canberra and Victoria.
Based on extensive independent research, organisations that
participate in sustainability education to change their behaviour
can easily achieve a 30% reduction in environmental resources.
A special part of the program also allows parents to participate
in the Climate Change program as part of the strategy to influence
behaviour change in the home and is designed to engage the whole
community not just students, Ms Colborne said.
