Today marked a historic day in the life of the PGA of
Australia, with past president and PGA life member Peter Thomson AO
CBE officially opening the Association's new National Office at the
Sandhurst Club in Melbourne.
The official opening ceremony, which included opening
addresses from PGA President Geoff Scott and Sandhurst Chairman Ken
Roche AO, was part of a day of celebration to usher in a new era for
the Professional Golfers' Association in Victoria.

During the ribbon cutting ceremony, five-time British Open
champion Thomson said "This is a proud day for the PGA. During my
time as President of the Association for 32 years, I couldn't have
imagined the PGA would grow to such a size that we are able to build
this kind of facility, and so it gives me great pleasure to open
building."
PGA President Geoff Scott said, "This new state of the art office
is a reflection of the foresight and success the Association has
been fortunate to experience, and I am honoured to be representing
the PGA on behalf of all members."
Following the cutting of the ribbon and tour of the new office
complex, guests then teed off on the Thomson Perrett designed North
Course, to enjoy the hospitality and challenge of Sandhurst Club,
the official "Home of the PGA".
The day was attended by a broad cross section of corporate and
industry representatives, including PGA sponsors and corporate
partners Cadbury Schweppes and GM Holden Ltd and Frankston City
Council Mayor Glenn Aitken.
Also present for the momentous ceremony were representatives from
the PGA Tour of Australasia, the New Zealand PGA, Australian Ladies
Professional Golf, along with the national amateur golf body, Golf
Australia and state golf associations from New South Wales and
Victoria.
The important occasion represents the culmination of two years of
planning and six months of construction on the $4.2 million
building, as well as the relocation of 14 of the PGA Australia staff
members.
