Premiere Special They Still Call Australia Home
To Air Nationally: Saturday 4 September 1999 at 4pm
Choir at Buenos Aires in Argentina
26/8/1999
THEY STILL CALL AUSTRALIA HOME traces a non-stop month in the hectic lives of Australia's best known choristers the National Boys Choir.
Teamed with the Australian Girls Choir and transported to more exotic locations around the world than their classmates could ever imagine, they are instantly recognisable as the face of the national airline Qantas.
This hour long documentary, produced by Jason Cameron, begins at Disneyland and establishes how these two groups with vastly different styles came together to make music for Qantas and in the process, promote Australia and Australian youth.
In Los Angeles the choir were the surprise guests at the launch of the multimillion dollar Qantas campaign which first aired on television in the US during American Superbowl Sunday.
We look behind the scenes of the making of the now famous Qantas commercial as these talented children sing on the Great Wall of China, on the canals of Venice and in the rice paddies of Thailand.
From Christmas concerts in Melbourne and Parliament House, Canberra to singing "America the Beautiful" at a UCLA basketball game, the choir also visits the studios of a morning television show in Los Angeles and sing "I Still Call Australia Home". But kids will be kids, and they also find time to fulfil every child's dream with a visit to Disneyland and Universal Studios.
