- 4 June 2003 - Work has begun on the $8 million Sandhurst
Clubhouse, which will be the central focus of golf club
and community activity on the prestigious residential
and golf development in Skye.
The Sandhurst Clubhouse will provide residents and
golf club members with spectacular views across the
championship North Course and over the lake system
towards the Dandenong Ranges from the elevated
ground floor.
The contemporary Australian design by Architects,
Perrott Lyon Mathieson features a spectacular eight
metre high and thirty metre long stone wall using local
stone from Hillview Quarries. The use of natural stone
also on the golf course, parklands and other
landscaped areas throughout the estate forms a
distinctive feature of Sandhurst Club.
A special feature of the Clubhouse will be the winter
garden atrium where members will be able to relax
overlooking the reflection pool whilst enjoying a sunny
environment through north facing windows. During
winter months large open fire places
throughout will create a warm environment.
Included on the ground floor of the Sandhurst
Clubhouse will be a 350 person function centre, dining
and bistro facilities for small groups, a bar, conference
facilities and a pro-shop.
The basement will house around 100 golf carts, service
and delivery areas.
Mr Stephen Head, Managing Director of the Links Group
said, "The Clubhouse would also be complemented by
other facilities in the club precinct including a
swimming pool, gymnasium, tennis courts and a small
local convenience store."
The Sandhurst Clubhouse will be finished and opened in
late March 2004 to coincide with the opening of the
golf course.
Mr Anthony Gurry, Chief Executive of PGA Links, who
will manage Sandhurst Club, said, "It is expected
around sixty staff will be employed at the Club.
"We are confident the 19th hole at Sandhurst Club will
be a favourite spot for members and visitors."
