The Victorian Minister for WorkCover, the Hon. Bob Cameron, and the Victorian Injury Surveillance and Applied Research System (VISAR) will announce details into the research of the one-millionth case study in a playground at Albert Park Lake.
VISAR, commenced in 1990, has become a world leader in collecting, developing and reporting on injury data providing the research for the major injury prevention campaigns on bike safety, home safety, playground, and pool safety. VISAR is based at Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) and is funded by VIC HEALTH.
The work of VISAR is supported by a number of hospitals that provide detailed injury data to the program to track trends, eg scooter injuries.
VISAR will announce details into the research of the one-millionth case study and the epidemic of home based injuries. The deaths and injury in Australian homes would lead to major industrial action and legislative change if they occurred in the workplace.
